The Last Guy Is Here To Rescue You (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/07/31/the-last-guy-is-here-to-rescue-you/)

+ Posted by Josh Miller // U.S. Producer (http://blog.us.playstation.com/?author=7853)
Recently at E3 (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/e3-2008/), SCEA announced some really cool PlayStation Network titles, including Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/Rag_Doll_Kung_Fu_Fists_of_Plastic), Fat Princess (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/Fat_Princess), Flower (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/Flower) and Crash Commando (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games/Crash_Commando). Well, the goods keep on coming because I’m excited to tell you today about ANOTHER new downloadable title we are bringing to PSN very soon: The Last Guy.
Before I say too much else about it, fire up this first-look gameplay trailer to learn a little bit about the premise of the game:

YouTube - The Last Guy Trailer

Pretty crazy, right? The trailer talks a bit about the story, but here’s some more detail. Set some time in the 21st century, a mysterious purple ray hits Earth, turning anyone touched by the light into a monster or zombie. With zombies roaming the streets, unaffected people lucky enough to have been inside a building when the ray hit are anxiously holding their collective breath, waiting for someone to rescue them. As The Last Guy, you are the survivors’ last hope to survive this global crisis. Actually, the hero of the game is himself a zombie from the Himalayan mountains, on a quest to save the remaining humans from the zombies that have infested it.
Go forth and save!!
As for the gameplay, here’s a basic rundown. The Last Guy is a fast-paced and addictive classic arcade style game with simple controls. The game uses real-life aerial maps of various cities around the world, including Tokyo, London and Los Angeles. As the player, you are the last remaining hope in each of these cities to rescue mankind from the zombies roaming the streets. As you navigate the city, you gather survivors hidden throughout buildings and other nooks and crannies in the city. Once rescued, the nervous survivors will form a line behind you. The objective is to lead them back to the Escape Zone so the United Rescue Force can pick them up and whisk them off to safety.

To complete a stage, you have to get enough survivors back to the escape zone before time runs out. Which isn’t as easy as it looks, because if zombies get too close, the people in line scream and scatter back into the buildings, meaning you have to rescue them again. So you’ll want to keep everyone as far away from the zombies as possible.

Along the way, you will encounter 10 types of zombies , not including tougher “boss” enemies. As the Last Guy, you possess special powers like thermography or heat vision to help you see where survivors are hiding. You’ll also find helpful power-ups, like freezing time, warping back to the escape zone and temporary invisibility, scattered throughout the city to help avoid the pesky zombies.

Well, that’s it for now. There will be much more about The Last Guy (http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/the-last-guy/) in the weeks to come. Thanks!

Μάλλον εννοείς ΘΑ το έχει!!! :frog:

Review: The Last Guy. Run From The Zombie Monsters!! (http://kotaku.com/5033145/review-the-last-guy-run-from-the-zombie-monsters)

http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kotaku/2008/08/the_last_guy_review_web.jpg

You are the chosen one, a zombie straight from the Himalayas, here to save everyone's butts. The Last Guy (http://kotaku.com/tag/The-last-guy/): Japan Premium is a 314MB PSN title from Sony's Japan Studio. The story is simple: A purple ray hit the Earth, turning everyone who was outside into monsters or zombies. Everyone indoors was spared, and it's your job to move them from the buildings through the narrow streets of Tokyo's Asakusa (thank you Google Earth!), avoiding the monsters and the zombies and moving your group to the Escape Zone where an United Rescue Force airship will pick them up.
So here you go, our Last Guy review:
Loved
Gameplay: The game play is arcadey and is based on several very simple, yet fun mechanics. Players must rescue a certain number people in a certain amount of time. Given that the maps are not completely free-roaming and players cannot cut through anywhere they like, the game does offer a great deal of strategy of how to get from A to B in the least amount of time. What's more, players can increase the speed at which they move, but these speed bursts aren't unlimited. It's also possible to toggle between what could be best described as night vision (though, it's not night), but this allows players to see how many people are in a given building. The neat part is that while using this, it isn't possible to see the zombies and monsters. Toggling back and forth is a simple, yet at times challenging game play mechanic. Oh! There are a bunch of power-ups as well that can turn you invisible or give you more stamina.
The concept: Go around saving people from zombies and monsters? Yes, please! And doing it in real world locals? Brilliant. The level design is great, fresh and surprisingly realistic. (Well, these are real locales...) And we love the *idea* of being able to save people in different cities around the world. Very solid concept.
Music: Sony could've easily pulled out the irritating techno, but didn't. The Last Guy, granted, does feature club music — just not annoying club music.
Hated
Difficulty curve: In the first level, players are given five minutes to rescue 700 people. The next level gives players six minutes to save 800 people. This progressions are both logical and challenging. For the third (and final) level in The Last Guy: Japan Premium, players have seven minutes to save, are you ready, 1,500 people. That. Makes. No. Sense. It's like the developers thought they should spike the difficult curve for the third level because the Japan Premium only has three levels, and they didn't want people to finish the game too quickly. A cop out on the Japan Studio's part, really.
Pricing: The Last Guy: Japan Premium costs ¥500 (US$4.60). Granted, that's not a lot, but considering how The Last Guy: Japan Premium doesn't exactly feel so "premium", has only one map that gets slightly larger and seems like a demo, then it kinda leaves you with mixed feelings. Paying $yen;500 for one map divided into three levels? Eh... Sure, while I loved playing The Last Guy, I wanted more — and as Sony has announced, there will be more! In short, this Japanese version seems more like an experiment to see whether this would get good buzz (it has), and now I feel like a guinea pig (don't like paying for demos!). If Sony plans on charging ¥500 for each Google Earth map it stuff in The Last Guy, this game could get real expensive, real fast.

Last Guy Released Globally Later This Month (With Extra Cities) (http://kotaku.com/5033119/last-guy-released-globally-later-this-month-with-extra-cities)

(http://kotaku.com/5033119/last-guy-released-globally-later-this-month-with-extra-cities) Cheap/quick/rad PSN game The Last Guy (http://kotaku.com/tag/The-last-guy/) is already out in Japan, leaving everyone outside of Japan wondering when they'll get their turn. Looks like your patience skills won't be needed for this one, as Sony's Hong Kong site has the game pegged for a global release in "August". It also says the game will ship with "many other famous cities", which we'll just take to mean that the different regional variants will ship with different, more appropriate cities. After all, not like it's hard to come up with a new level (http://kotaku.com/5031812/this-custom-last-guy-level-looks-familiar-and-unplayable).http://kotaku.com/5033119/last-guy-released-globally-later-this-month-with-extra-cities

The Last Guy Promotional Clip Now With English Subtitles! (http://kotaku.com/5033583/the-last-guy-promotional-clip-now-with-english-subtitles)

An English translated version of the interview with The Last Guy (http://kotaku.com/tag/The-last-guy/)'s "developers" speaking Bengali — tongue planted firmly in cheek. The actual developers are Sony's Japan Studio and responsible for the PSP's Work Time Fun. Pretty sure they don't have a goat in their office, either. Well, maybe they do. Who knows.

Sony details final The Last Guy release

All the stages, plus your money back for the Japan Premium version.

--Aug 21, 2008, 14:11, Tokyo--Sony shared details today on the full release of The Last Guy. The unique action/puzzle game will be available for download through the PlayStation Store on August 28 at 2,000 yen.
First announced in early July, The Last Guy puts players in the role of The Last Guy, a hero who's come from the Himalayas to save people from attacking zombies. Players view high resolution satellite maps of cities and attempt to lead stranded survivors to safety zones.
This full release follows the July 31 release of The Last Guy Japan Premium, a 500 yen sampler version of the game which featured play exclusively in Tokyo's Akasuka area.
The full release retains the same gameplay as the Premium Japan counterpart, but features stages set throughout the world. You'll find London City (England), San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf (America), Stockholm (Sweden), Sydney (Australia), Yokohama China Town (Japan) and more.
Also included in the full release is the Asakusa map from Japan Premium. Those who currently have the sampler version will find some changes to the Asakusa map, including different positioning for people and zombies. Sadly, the full release will not share save data.
Distribution for the Japan Premium edition of the game will end on the 27th. Sony is still giving players a good reason to download the sampler version, though. Those who buy both Japan Premium and The Last Guy prior to 10/31 will get a 500 yen PlayStation Network Card. This campaign is retroactive to players who already own Japan Premium.
For a look at the new stages of play, check the official Last Guy website The Last Guy official site (http://www.jp.playstation.com/scej/title/lastguy/).
